Dr Simon Kaja


Simon Kaja, Ph.D.

Associate Director Preclinical Research Vision Research Center;
Assistant Professor in the Departments of Ophthalmology and
Basic Medical Science, University of Missouri - Kansas City

Dr. Kaja is a neurobiologist with a long-standing research interest in human neurological diseases and visual disorders. His expertise lies in migraine, cerebellar ataxia and epilepsy.

The main focus of his recent research has been on the study of the pathophysiological mechanisms in mouse models for familial hemiplegic migraine.

Using a broad experimental approach, ranging from molecular biology to electrophysiology and imaging, Dr. Kaja has extensively studied the neuromuscular synaptic transmission
as well as compensatory signalling pathways in the CNS.

He currently investigates the visual impairments during migraine headaches and the possible retinal involvement in migraine pathophysiology.
